A Brunei official was quoted as saying that his nation is “seriously considering” joining the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. Datuk Malai Jahi, ambassador to Saudi Arabia, made the comment in an interview with a Saudi newspaper. Brunei wasn’t among the seven non-OPEC nations that met recently with leading OPEC ministers in Vienna but has voiced support of OPEC policies to shore up oil prices. The 13 member nations of OPEC hope to expand the number of non-OPEC nations discussing joint steps on oil output, but there hasn’t been much discussion of other countries actually joining OPEC.
