CAMPAIGN ’88 : Wrong-Way Jackson

Share

Rarely do the strains of his almost round-the-clock campaign show on Jackson, but fatigue has slipped him up in a few recent speeches. The result has been some humorous and startling pronouncements.

In a late-night speech at a political dinner in San Francisco last week, for example, Jackson listed what he considers the worst threats facing the country: “cocaine, crack, heroin and Ph.D.” And where he usually announces his intention to put President Reagan and Bush on the same plane to California after the election, on Monday he told an Omaha crowd that their destination would be Washington.

The Bush campaign has not commented on the surprise and unintentional endorsement.
