Astrologer Says She, First Lady Talked This Week

After saying Nancy Reagan had not talked with her astrologer in a couple of months, White House officials were caught off guard today when the stargazer said she had been in touch with the First Lady this week.

“I just don’t know anything about it,” said Elaine Crispen, the press secretary to Mrs. Reagan. “I wasn’t aware they had talked. I had no idea.”

The astrologer, Joan Quigley of San Francisco, said she had spoken with the First Lady this week but would not reveal her reaction to the flap over the use of stargazing in planning the schedule of President Reagan.

Quigley’s statement contradicted what White House officials were saying.

White House spokesman Marlin Fitzwater and Crispen both said on Tuesday that it had been “a couple of months” since Mrs. Reagan had been in touch with the astrologer.
