Bellflower : Grants Sought for 2 Parks

Share

The Bellflower Parks and Recreation Department will apply for federal money to help finance improvements it hopes to make this summer at T. Mayne Thompson and Ruth R. Caruthers parks. The City Council on Monday approved the department’s application for a grant from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has made available $420,000 this year to Southern California cities.

The federal government will allocate the money for refurbishing and enhancing outdoor facilities. Cities that receive grants under the program must show matching funds in their 1989-90 budgets.

Bellflower has four proposed projects--ranging in cost from $10,000 to $25,000--to upgrade facilities at the two parks, city spokesman Nelson Oliva said. The proposals will be included in the formal application to be sent next week, Oliva said.
