French Premier Michel Rocard, chosen by Socialist President Francois Mitterrand to implement a new centrist strategy, plans to announce the makeup of his new government today, spokeswoman Marie Bertin told reporters. Rocard spent 1 hour and 20 minutes with Mitterrand at the president’s Elysee Palace consulting on the composition of the government. Rocard’s government is likely to include technocrats and industrialists. Moderate conservatives could also be named. Rocard was named to succeed conservative Premier Jacques Chirac, who failed to oust Mitterrand from the presidency in last Sunday’s runoff election.
