A 14-year-old boy infected with the AIDS virus has filed suit in federal court claiming that Saddleback Valley school officials violated his civil rights when they barred him from attending Rancho Canada Elementary School three years ago.

Channon Phipps, a hemophiliac who contracted the virus from a blood transfusion, has been the plaintiff in several lawsuits filed on his behalf by his aunt and legal guardian, Deborha Phipps.

The suits have sought damages from UC Irvine, in whose hospital Channon allegedly received tainted blood coagulants, the Saddleback Valley Unified School District and various school officials.
