The owner of a hotel overlooking MacArthur Park in Los Angeles has been cited with 32 alleged code violations. The city attorney’s office said the Palms Wilshire Hotel has fire, health and building and safety code violations.

City Atty. James Hahn says that Amiya K. Goswami, 53, of Long Beach, has failed to correct violations that inspectors have documented at the hotel at 626 S. Alvarado St. since August.

Goswami purchased the 98-room hotel in September, 1986, and has since failed to obey “repeated orders” to make repairs, Hahn said.

“Inspections conducted in March of 1986 showed that the hotel was in substantial compliance with all codes at that time, but the property has undergone rapid deterioration,” Hahn said.

Violations cited include rodent infestation, holes in walls, chipped and peeling paint, defective doors, electrical and plumbing problems, missing smoke detectors and defective fire escape drop ladders.

Goswami is scheduled to be arraigned in Municipal Court on June 9.
