Sen. Lowell P. Weicker Jr., traveling to Connecticut with President Reagan, today labeled Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III “a son of a bitch.”

Taking advantage of the chance to present his views to the small pool of reporters who accompany Reagan on the presidential jet, Weicker said:

“I’ve been battling the son-of-a-bitch ever since he became attorney general. I don’t like him.”

Weicker’s comments came in the context of his answer to reporters’ questions about whether Meese should resign.

The Connecticut Republican, who long has been at odds with the Administration on a variety of issues, said, “I want to see the report of the special prosecutor first.”

Reagan often invites members of Congress to accompany him on trips to their states and districts as a matter of presidential courtesy. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.) also traveled on the presidential aircraft today.

For his part, Reagan, said that critics of his embattled attorney general are “trying to make a fuss over him” but that none of the charges against him have been substantiated.
