Local News in Brief : 2nd Hearing on School Secession
A second public hearing on a petition to split the Palos Verdes Unified School District will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rolling Hills High School, 27118 Silver Spur Road, near the Peninsula shopping center in Rolling Hills Estates.
The county Committee on School District Organization, the agency charged with evaluating proposals to change existing school boundaries, had initially set the hearing for an earlier date.
As in the first hearing last Tuesday at Miraleste High School, the committee will hear the pros and cons of organizing a new school district on the east side of the Peninsula. Officials said proponents of retaining one unified school system will be heard first, since pro-secessionists began the presentations at the Miraleste meeting.
