A New York City factory worker was convicted of raping five women in what is believed to be the first case in New York state in which rape victims identified their attacker by listening to his tape-recorded voice. After a four-week trial in Suffolk County on Long Island, Scott Carroll, 27, was found guilty of 31 charges in a 54-count indictment that accused him of rape, sodomy, burglary, grand larceny, and attempted rape. In most of Carroll’s crimes, he wore a mask or it was too dark to see his face, the victims testified.
