A North Korean table tennis team left Japan after withdrawing from a multinational tournament to protest its expulsion by the Japanese government from a reception in the team’s honor.
The Japanese government says the team’s attendance at the reception, sponsored in part by a pro-Pyongyang group, violated the team’s pledge not to engage in political activities in Japan.
