The fledgling county’s first major growth spurt occurred in the mid-1880s, even before it was officially declared an independent entity. Since then, there has been no looking back as visionary residents have nurtured the agricultural industry, capitalized on the discovery of oil and generally guided the county successfully through its growing pains to make it one of the wealthiest and fastest-growing areas in the nation.
