The custody battle for Baby M and the surrounding controversy over surrogate motherhood has been turned into a four-hour docudrama that ABC will air Sunday and Monday (9-11 p.m. both nights).

In “Baby M,” JoBeth Williams takes the role of Mary Beth Whitehead, the New Jersey woman who signed a contract to conceive a child for William and Elizabeth Stern. The bitter battle that evolved after the baby was born is re-created in the ABC film that also stars John Shea, Bruce Weitz, Robin Strasser, Anne Jackson and Dabney Coleman.
