Ford Motor Co. plans to inspect ambulances to determine why at least nine have caught fire recently nationwide, officials said Sunday.

A Ford spokesman said teams will inspect the cooling systems of Ford ambulances built from 1983 to 1987. Drivers smelled antifreeze before the ambulances caught fire in the three blazes that occurred in Missouri, the state chosen for the inspections, officials said. No one was injured in the fires.
