The final round of the Inner City Cultural Center’s 6th annual Ira Aldridge acting competition, designed to honor young black actors, brought contestants from across the nation to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Sunday night. Winners of the competition, named for Aldridge, the 19th-Century black actor who had to go to Europe to find a career, shared $2,000 in prize money that was donated by Ted (“Love Boat”) Lange. First place: Marcus Naylor, Sonia Jackson. Second place: Margret Mahlanza, Hassan El-Amin. Third place: Claudia Robinson, Caine Richardson. Runners-up received a unicorn pin, emblazoned with the word “Persevere.” Malcom Jamal-Warner of the Cosby show is an alumnus of this competition.
