3-D, Ciba-Geigy Sign Research Agreement

Sylmar-based 3-D Systems, which makes machines that use lasers and plastics to make models of parts, said it signed a research and development agreement with Ciba-Geigy Ltd. of Switzerland.

The company added that it has received an advance of $1.2 million from Spectra-Physics of San Jose, a subsidiary of Ciba-Geigy, for an expected agreement in which Spectra-Physics would become a European distributor of 3-D’s equipment.
