The Senate today passed legislation to ban plastic handguns that could be slipped through the metal detectors at airports and federal buildings. The anti-terrorism bill is similar to legislation passed by the House on a 413-4 vote earlier this month. Differences in the two will have to be resolved before the gun ban is sent to President Reagan for his signature.

The Senate bill, passed by voice vote without debate, includes an amendment by Senate Republican Leader Bob Dole of Kansas and Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) that would require toy guns to have bright orange plugs in their barrels.
