Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, sometimes mentioned as a running mate for Vice President George Bush, unequivocally ruled out today the possibility of taking the No. 2 spot on the GOP ticket.

In a brief written response to a query from United Press International, O’Connor said, “I most assuredly am not considering any other position in or out of government and do not expect to do so in the future.”

O’Connor, 58, is a conservative longtime Republican appointed to the high court by President Reagan in 1981. She is the first woman to be a Supreme Court justice.
