Carl’s Jr. restaurant founder Carl Karcher, who has been accused of insider trading by the Securities and Exchange Commission, will be host to Gov. George Deukmejian and other Republican Party leaders at a $5,000-per-couple dinner June 2 in San Clemente.

The dinner will raise money for the Majority Committee, which is part of a GOP effort to gain majorities in both houses of the state Legislature before redistricting after the 1990 census.

According to Paul Mitchell, vice president of public relations for Anaheim-based Karcher Enterprises, the dinner will be held at Karcher’s home in the exclusive Cypress Shores section of San Clemente.

Other GOP leaders speaking at the event will be Senate Minority Leader Ken Maddy of Fresno, Assembly Minority Leader Pat Nolan of Glendale and state Republican Party Chairman Robert L. Naylor.

The SEC alleges that Karcher and his brother, Donald Karcher, and their wives tipped some of their relatives to news about falling profits at Karcher Enterprises. The SEC suit seeks more than $1 million in damages from the defendants.
