Local News in Brief : Councilman Takes Oath of Office

Share

A six-month vacancy on the Redondo Beach City Council was filled Wednesday night when Steve Colin was sworn into office.

Colin defeated William Mona in a runoff election last week.

Colin, a 31-year-old lawyer and a lifelong resident of Redondo Beach, was sworn in by Mayor Barbara Doerr before the start of the council meeting. Several jubilant campaign supporters, calling Colin their “knight in shining armor,” presented Colin with roses and a cardboard crown.

“It’s a relief,” Colin said afterward. “I’m so tired of running for office.”

The new councilman ran last year and lost by five votes to incumbent Marcia Martin. Martin resigned in November, and Colin will serve the remaining three years of the term.
