An appeals court opened the way for an annual shareholders meeting of struggling appliance maker Allegheny International Inc., the subject of a heated proxy fight. The ruling by a panel of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a U.S. District Court ruling in Pittsburgh and overturned a May 16 ruling by bankruptcy court, which prohibited the meeting for 90 days. Circuit Court Judge Edward Becker did not set a date for the meeting. New York investment firm Speer Leeds & Kellog seeks control of Allegheny, whose products include Oster and Sunbeam appliances.
