Hart Versus Ferguson in Assembly Race

Share

Your previous coverage of Evelyn Hart’s challenge to Assemblyman Gil Ferguson has been manifestly slanted to her advantage. So it was a pleasant surprise to see a stab at balanced reporting in the latest article (May 17).

Hart failed to cite for your reporter any specific measures she would push or exactly how she would relieve traffic congestion, if elected.

I suppose she now realizes it’s a liability for her campaign to mention raising the state’s gasoline tax, which she was advocating only a couple of months before deciding to run for the Assembly.

Your reporter had to inform her of Proposition 73, the campaign reform measure sponsored and backed by Republicans. Hart is a Republican, yet she told your reporter she was instead favoring Prop. 68, which applies only to the Legislature and establishes public financing of campaigns for the first time in California. Nearly every liberal activist group in the state supports it.

I don’t agree with Ferguson on every issue or every vote he has cast. But he’s done an outstanding job dealing with our transportation mess in Orange County.
