Three of four neighbors arrested in a drug sweep in San Fernando on Friday remained in custody Sunday, each in lieu of $20,000 bail, San Fernando police reported.

Members of the city’s Special Problems Unit, recently reorganized after a several-year hiatus, arrested brothers Robert and Richard Mendez, both 24, at 3 p.m. at their home in the 11000 block of Telfair Avenue. Detectives seized a small amount of cocaine and $1,300 in cash.

Robert Mendez was booked on suspicion of possessing cocaine for sale, while Richard Mendez was cited for a traffic warrant and later released.

Further investigation led police to a house across the street from the Mendez home. About 5 ounces of PCP, worth an estimated $3,000 on the street, was seized there at 7:30 p.m. Kathy Nevarez, 24, and her uncle, Joseph Nevarez, 38, were arrested on suspicion of possessing PCP for sale.

The second discovery led police to add possession of PCP for sale to the charges against Robert Mendez.
