A powerful cold front spread winter-like rain and snow and gusty wind into the Rocky Mountains, but much of the rest of the nation had fair weather for Memorial Day. A snow advisory was in effect through the night for the mountains of northwestern Wyoming. Up to 6 inches of snow had fallen in the higher passes of Yellowstone National Park, closing roads, the National Weather Service and Park Service said. Snow advisories also were issued for parts of Utah and southwestern Montana. Warm, windy weather spread ahead of the cold front and thunderstorms developed over eastern Wyoming. The front created a sharp temperature contrast across Montana, from the 80s in the east to the 30s in the west. Youngstown, Ohio, had a record high for the date of 88 degrees, and Alpena, Mich., tied its record of 89. Orlando, Fla., reported a record low of 63.
