U.S. farm exports in March climbed to a 3 1/2-year high of 14.8 million tons valued at $3.3 billion, the Agriculture Department said. A year ago, farm exports were 11.4 million tons valued at $2.4 billion. It was the best monthly performance since December, 1984. The nation posted an agricultural trade surplus in March of $1.38 billion, the fifth straight month that the balance sheet has been $1 billion or more in the black, the department said. It said the March surplus also was the largest since December, 1984.
