Measure A Sparks Debate Over Growth and County’s Future

Share

I am a small home builder who builds exclusively in Orange County. Our company is the livelihood for about 20 families who all live here. With the threat of referendums like Measure A on the ballot, companies like ours will have to let our people go and move elsewhere to provide one of the basics of human existence, housing.

I have been contorted so many times as being the bad guy that is responsible for the traffic problems. Our industry is being blamed unfairly for responding to a very basic need in our growing economy. It has not been the responsibility of our industry in the past to fund new freeways nor has it been the responsibility of our local government to build freeways, which rather have been built and funded by the state and federal governments and that is where the problem lies.

Passage of Measure A will severely stall help that is on the way because it is the developers’ fees which will build these badly needed freeways that would otherwise wait years and years for federal and state governments to get back on track.
