WEST BERLIN —
A person believed to have bombed a noted West Berlin department store in May in an extortion attempt has made off with 500,000 marks ($300,000) left for him by the retailer, police said Friday.
The elegant Kaufhaus des Westens (Department Store of the West), known as KaDeWe, was bombed after it received a letter threatening attack if it did not pay a large amount of money. The bomb damaged the sporting goods section but injured no one.
