The San Fernando Valley Dodgers did not make much of their opportunities Saturday, leaving 18 runners on base as they lost a doubleheader to the Santa Maria Indians, 4-2 and 7-1, in National Baseball Congress play at Elks Field in Santa Maria.

Santa Maria’s Bob Sapp pitched a two-hitter over six innings in the opener and was backed by Jeff Oberdank’s first-inning solo home run.

In the nightcap, 39-year-old Bill Bonham, formerly of the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds, picked up the win in the nightcap, pitching three shutout innings. Stacy Parker drove in three runs.
