“They flubbed and they’re very contrite,” said New York City Mayor Edward Koch on Saturday, describing officials’ demeanor at city-owned WNYC-TV after a video of a topless woman was accidently broadcast late Friday afternoon during a youth-oriented program intended to discourage teen-age pregnancy and drug abuse. “They say a producer fell asleep at a switch,” Koch told the New York Post. “They don’t allow this kind of nudity for adults. They wouldn’t intentionally put this show on a children’s hour.” Koch said it wasn’t known how the clip got into the prerecorded program, which was “provided by the video industry.” Asked if the unidentified producer would be disciplined, Koch replied, “He’ll be told, ‘Stop sleeping.’ ”
