Selected Roman Catholic officials may go to the movies next month to see early screenings of Martin Scorsese’s much discussed new film, “The Last Temptation of Christ.” According to the New York Daily News, the director wants to see if church officials have any objections to the film, based on the Nikos Kazantzakis novel by the same name. The film, which stars Willem Dafoe as Jesus, Harvey Keitel as Judas, David Bowie as Pontius Pilate and Barbara Hershey as Mary Magdalene, is reportedly rife with potential controversy because of the way some central characters are portrayed--Joseph, for example, is not depicted at all.
