A tornado ripped through a campground north of Denver, destroying a camping vehicle and pulling barbecues out of their concrete pads, authorities said. Many of the 65 campers at the campground took cover in the office. There were no immediate reports of injuries from the Adams County twister--one of several tornadoes and funnel clouds reported by the National Weather Service in the 50-mile stretch along Interstate 25 between Denver and Ft. Collins. Minor damage was reported from a tornado in southwest Weld County. High wind warnings were posted over parts of Utah, Nevada and Arizona. The gusts ushered in unseasonably warm air northeastward, bringing record highs to the region, including a reading of 101 at Miles City, Mont., that for the third day in a row broke a 1952 record of 99 degrees. In the Southeast, a cold wave broke or tied records in at least 17 cities. For the second day in a row, Asheville, N.C., broke a record with 40 degrees, besting the 1978 mark of 48 degrees.
