Evans Wins Four Swimming Events at Festival

Janet Evans dominated the swimming competition by winning four events at the Las Vegas Sports Festival, a tuneup for the Olympic Games in Seoul.
Evans, of Placentia, won the women’s 800-meter freestyle, the 400-meter individual medley, the 400-meter freestyle and the 200 individual medley.
In boxing, world champions Kelcie Banks and Kenneth Gould posted victories as U.S. fighters completed their domination of the boxing by winning 11 of 12 bouts in two days against Eastern European opponents.
At Boulder City, Nev., Doug Shapiro broke away with 17 laps remaining and drew out to a 37-second victory in the men’s criterium bicycle competition.
