‘Where Is the Law?’

In your editorial “Where Is the Law?” (May 24) you deplored guns in the hands of sociopaths. Sociopaths do not kill themselves when they realize what they have done.

My suspicion from the news is that here was a seriously ill woman for whom her family could not get help.

The nature of mental illness often robs these sick people of the knowledge that they are sick. They are free to refuse help and the law tragically accepts this right and as a result two innocent people died.

Please investigate what difficulties families are encountering in trying to get help for their seriously mentally ill relatives, most of whom, fortunately, are not dangerous to others.
