Military police in Uganda put down a mutiny at two army barracks last month, incidents followed by what was believed to be an assassination attempt on President Yoweri Museveni, Ugandan military sources said. About 200 dissident soldiers were killed and 700 detained in the April 7-8 mutiny, which involved the 19th Artillery Regiment and the 8th Infantry Battalion, according to the sources. Then, on April 11, at least 16 soldiers were killed when a presidential convoy was ambushed near Kampala, the sources said, adding that Museveni was not in the convoy.
