Japan plans to launch an international research consortium to develop fuzzy logic computer applications, a government official said. About 20 firms, Japanese and foreign, are expected to join the group’s basic and applied studies in fuzzy logic, theory and applications over a six- to eight-year period. Fuzzy logic, first advanced in 1965, uses multivariate logic, as opposed to the binary logic found in most computers. It is adept at processing vague distinctions and comparisons.
