Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Grim Reminder Offered as Graduation Nears

Share

The Safe Conduct Council at Laguna Beach High School believes in letting tragedy speak on behalf of safety.

That is why the council is displaying a drunk driver’s wrecked car to illustrate for students the dangers of driving under the influence, according to Jennifer Brennan, 16, one of about 100 council members.

The display, today and Wednesday, is part of a campaign against drunk driving that is being intensified in anticipation of graduation on June 23.

The wrecked car was loaned to the school and placed in main courtyard by the Larry Hunt Auto Center of Laguna Beach, Brennan said.

“Basically, we’ve found that it (the car) is the most efficient type of reminder,” she said. “It really sticks in kids’ heads when they go out on the weekend.”

The council also offers rides on Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. for students who cannot drive home. Students are advised to call (714) 497-3333 for a ride.
