Israeli soldiers opened fire Saturday on Palestinians throwing Molotov cocktails at them in a U.N.-run refugee camp. The troops killed one Palestinian and wounded two amid scattered unrest in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, the army and Palestinian sources said.

In Arab East Jerusalem, soldiers and police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse stone-throwing youths who blocked a main commercial street with burning debris. State-run Israel Radio reported that two soldiers were injured by the stones, and that police detained more than 10 people.

West Bank students returned to classes Saturday, ending a two-day military closure of an estimated 1,200 schools. The army said it closed the schools, which were shut earlier this year for four months, to halt anti-Israel disturbances and prevent more unrest.

Clashes in Nine Towns

Palestinians clashed with soldiers in at least nine towns and U.N.-run refugee camps in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said. A 15-year-old resident of the Gaza village of Bani Suheila suffered a serious head wound and a broken leg during one clash.

In the Khan Yunis refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, soldiers opened fire on Palestinians throwing Molotov cocktails at them, an army spokesman said.

The army said a dead Palestinian was brought to a hospital after the shooting and said the cause of death was under investigation. The army also said two other people were wounded by live ammunition.

Palestinian Identified

Palestinian sources identified the dead Arab as Raed Khalid Haj Yussuf, 17, and said the youth was shot in the chest.

The army clamped a curfew on Khan Yunis, where more than 31,000 Palestinians live.

At least 196 Palestinians have been killed during the 6-month-old Palestinian uprising.

In East Jerusalem, protesters partially blocked Salah Ed Din Street with burning debris and smashed car windows during a noon-time demonstration.
