Local News in Brief : Drug Overdose Victim Had Live Grenade
Alive hand grenade was found Monday inside the North Hollywood apartment of a man who apparently died of a cocaine overdose, authorities said.
Police said they did not know why Mark Castillo, 35, had the grenade in the upstairs apartment in the 10900 block of Morrison Street. A police spokesman said the grenade was found during a routine check of Castillo’s belongings after he was pronounced dead by paramedics about 11 a.m. Monday.
Paramedics were called by Castillo’s girlfriend after he became ill from an apparent drug overdose, police said.
The grenade was detonated at another location, authorities said.
