Local News in Brief : Parkland Funds Proposed
A U.S. Senate subcommittee on Monday recommended spending $6 million to buy parkland in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in 1989. The sum is more than 17% of the $34.45 million proposed for parkland purchases nationwide by the Senate Interior appropriations subcommittee.
Its counterpart in the House of Representatives previously suggested spending $13 million for the recreation area. The final allocation will be negotiated by a conference committee, which could meet as early as next month.
