3rd Soviet-Turkish Crossing to Open
The Soviet Union and Turkey signed an agreement Monday to open a third crossing on their 365-mile-long border.
Transportation Minister Ekrem Pakdemirli of Turkey and his Soviet counterpart, Yuri Suhin, signed the accord.
The crossing is at the divided village of Sarp in the Black Sea province of Artvin. The gate will be opened later this year after a bridge is built over the Coruh River that forms the border, Pakdemirli said.
The two other crossings are in Dogukapi in Kars and in Agri province.
Most of the travelers using the gates are citizens with relatives on the opposite sides of the border.
