At least 54 people were killed or wounded in El Salvador’s civil war during the past week, including two children who died when a grenade exploded, reports from both sides indicated. The armed forces press office in San Salvador said seven rebels were killed and 16 wounded while six soldiers died and 23 were wounded in the week of fighting. Radio Venceremos, clandestine voice of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front, said the guerrillas inflicted 98 casualties on the army during the week, most of them in an ambush in northern Cabanas province. It gave no rebel casualties. The two children died when they picked up a live grenade in Tenancingo.
