Local News in Brief : Assemblyman Has Cancer

Share

Assemblyman Curtis R. Tucker (D-Inglewood) has told legislative colleagues that he has liver cancer and will seek treatment as soon as possible after consulting with a team of specialists.

Tucker was hospitalized in Sacramento for eight days earlier this month after complaining of chest pains. Doctors at Sutter Memorial Hospital found no problem with the 70-year-old lawmaker’s heart but discovered the cancer during a series of tests, he said.

“They had found cancer in my liver . . . some form of lymphoma, it is not the most dangerous one,” Tucker said.

A seven-term lawmaker and chairman of the Assembly Health Committee, Tucker won a landslide victory June 7, easily beating back a Democratic primary challenge from Inglewood City Councilman Daniel Tabor.
