Local News in Brief : Hearing to Study Options for Light Rail
Apublic hearing on public transportation in the San Fernando Valley, including alternative routes for a proposed light-rail line, will be held Monday in Van Nuys.
The 7 p.m. hearing at Ulysses S. Grant High School, 13000 Oxnard St., will be conducted by a 32-member citizens’ advisory committee.
The Citizens Advisory Panel on Transportation Solutions for the San Fernando Valley was created by the City Council and Mayor Tom Bradley to recommend a transit system for the Valley because of community opposition to all five routes for a light-rail line proposed by the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission.
The panel, considering a monorail along with a trolley line, is to make a recommendation to the council by Aug. 1. The council then will make its recommendation to the Transportation Commission, which has final say over a Valley rail line.
