Sikh separatists killed nine more people in Punjab, bringing to more than 60 the number slain since the weekend in the militants’ campaign for an independent Sikh homeland in the northern Indian state. Police said five were shot to death in one attack in southern Punjab, and the others died in separate incidents. A time-bomb attack Tuesday near the Golden Temple in Amritsar killed 30 people, most of them Hindus. Home Minister Buta Singh, saying the militants are trying to set one religion against another, appealed for communal harmony.
