CROFTON, Ky. — A 32-car train derailed and a car filled with phosphorus burst into flames Wednesday night, forcing about 2,500 residents of three small towns to evacuate their homes, officials said.
No injuries were reported, said Don Armstrong, spokesman for the state Disaster and Emergency Services in Frankfort. He said a phosphorus fire cannot be quenched with water and must burn itself out.
