Israel Hit by 3-Hr. Blackout
Israel’s major cities, the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip lost electrical power today for up to three hours, but a utility spokesman ruled out sabotage.
At about 11:15 a.m. power went out in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and as far south as the seaside resort of Eilat on the Egyptian border. Also affected were the occupied West Bank cities of Nablus, Ramallah and Bethlehem, and the occupied Gaza Strip.
Southern District police spokesman Rafi Levi initially said police were investigating whether the outage was a case of sabotage.
But Israel Electrical Corp. spokesman Avri Ravid told Israel radio about four hours after the outage that officials had ruled out sabotage.
