Delegates to U.S.-mediated talks aimed at ending the war in Angola and achieving independence for Namibia reported progress and scheduled more talks next month in the United States. A communique at the end of two days of negotiations in Cairo said the July 11 meeting will be at the “experts level” at an undisclosed U.S. site. “Further progress was made, and a plan of work was developed for continuing exchanges at the level of experts to expand on the progress made in Cairo,” the communique said. The talks involved representatives from South Africa, which governs Namibia (South-West Africa), and from Angola, Cuba and the United States.
