Lewis Beery’s RP 42, It’s OK, of Balboa Yacht Club continued unbeaten in Class B through the second and third races of Audi Sobstad Race Week off Long Beach Saturday, despite spotting most of her rivals handicap time.

Tom Wilson is steering the boat for this Grand Prix-level event, which has drawn 105 entries in five classes.

In Class A level racing (no handicaps) for J-35s and Schock 35s, Barney Flam and son Steve took a commanding lead by winning both of Saturday’s races in their new J-35, Flambouyant.

The wind on the windward-leeward ocean courses built from 15 to 21 knots through the afternoon, causing some fast and crowded leeward roundings.

Two-time Class A defending champion Bill Rosenberg will start today’s final race on his 70th birthday with his J-35, Raging Rosy, in third place.

Competition in Classes C, D and E remained tight.

There were seven protests, but only one went to a full hearing as the other skippers either dropped their foul claims on the advice of an arbitrator or accepted one of the alternate finish-position penalties in effect.
