Gasoline consumption has risen with the advent of the summer driving season, but motorists, so far, have found that gasoline prices have fallen, said Trilby Lundberg, whose Lundberg Letter surveys prices at 13,000 service stations nationwide. The average price of a gallon of gasoline fell 0.27 cents since June 10, to 99.98 cents, It was the first time since 1986 that summer gasoline prices have fallen in the face of rising consumption, and Lundberg said consumers can thank price competition, a world oversupply of oil and a perception of price instability after recent OPEC meetings in Vienna. The survey found that the average price for a gallon of gasoline at service stations was 90.84 cents for regular unleaded, 105.60 for premium unleaded and 88.09 for regular leaded. At full-service stations, prices were 119.64 for a gallon of regular unleaded, 129.78 for premium unleaded and 115.92 for regular leaded.
