The World : Car Bomb Kills U.S. Aide
An American defense attache assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Athens was killed by a bomb near his home today, a Pentagon spokesman said. The attache, a Navy captain who was identified by police in the Greek capital as William Nordine, had just left his home in the wealthy north Athens suburb of Kefalari when the blast occurred. The bomb had been placed in another car parked about 100 yards from Nordine’s home and appeared to have been detonated by remote control as he drove by, police added. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
